The lodge was expanded by Tan Boon Liat, a local philanthropist, in 1925. By 1926. construction was completed with building materials imported from China. Many restoration schemes were carried out through the years with the last major work undertaken in 1970 when Abbot Rev. Kwong Cheng added the main shrine and the left and right wings in 1972.
The new temple consists of a main hall (in the front portion), corridors, side verandas, four guest rooms (at the sides), eight monks’ chambers, a kitchen, an ancestral worship- hall and the prayer and meditation rooms. At present, efforts have been made to preserve its rich architectural heritage.
Architecturally, the main hall A resembles a Chinese palace. The timber used for the beam frames of the temple is richly carved with extremely ornate pieces of chimera, birds, dragons, flowers and human figurines. In addition, ‘Cheng Hai’ timber (hardwood) with a diameter of 25cm was originally used as columns but later some of them were replaced by granite posts to avoid the attack of termites.
The temple is built out of beams; the walls are screened partitions, which do not extend all the way to the underside of the roof, thus exposing the timber structure. This is typical of Chinese style buildings in China. What is most interesting about this temple is that no nails were used in the construction of the main frame of this temple.

Walk in a clockwise direction within the temple, as instructed by Buddha. It is believed that this will bring about good Feng Shui.

从建筑风格上看，大雄宝殿类似于中国宫殿。寺庙梁架使用的木材雕刻精美，装饰有麒麟、鸟类、龙、花卉和人物雕像等极其华丽的图案。此外，最初使用的柱子为直径 25 厘米的 “Cheng Hai” 木材（硬木），但后来为了避免白蚁侵袭，其中一些柱子被花岗岩柱替代。
这座寺庙由梁柱建造而成；墙壁是由隔屏组成的，它们并不一直延伸到屋顶下方，从而暴露了木材结构。这在中国是中式建筑的典型特征。这座寺庙最有趣的是，主体框架的建造没有使用任何钉子。
